Diovan Medication

Diovan medication is effective for treating high blood pressure (hypertension) or heart failure.  It is also prescribed by the doctor to lower the risk of death following a heart attack. Diovan belongs to a class of drugs known as angiotensin II receptor antagonists. It keeps blood vessels from constricting, which reduces blood pressure and makes way for improved blood flow in the body.

It is necessary to follow the prescription and not alter the dosage or prolong the medication more than what the doctor has instructed.  Your doctor can change the dosage as he or she feels like so that you get the best results from the medication. You can take Diovan with or without food but you should ideally consume one glass of water after taking the medicine.  . The doctor will also call on you and monitor your BP levels regularly to find out if the medicine is working fine on you.

Diovan comes in the form of oral tablets; the usual dosage can range from 40–320 mg daily. It can take about 2 to 4 weeks of using Diovan before the blood pressure actually goes down. You can talk to your doctor if the symptoms do not change for the better after 4 weeks of taking the medicine.  There are some people who stop taking the medicine once they feel fine; that is not the right thing to do. Your doctor is in the best position to tell you when to stop even if you are feeling fine. High blood pressure does not have symptoms mostly so, you really cannot say if you are ‘actually’ fine, till your blood pressure consistently is at an acceptable level.

. You should take the missed dose when you remember but if sufficient time has elapsed so much that it is the time to take the next dose, then skip the missed dose and take the medicine at the next scheduled time. Do not take a double dose and in case you have taken an overdose, make sure that you seek emergency medical attention. Overdose symptoms can include  feeling of fainting, fast heart-beats and dizziness.
